Defence forces shift a mobile tower from Kargil to Srinagar
The defence forces have shifted a mobile tower from Kargil in Ladakh to Srinagar to ensure telephone connectivity in the flood affected areas of Indranagar, Badamibagh and Shivpora in Srinagar. The move is aimed at speeding up the rescue process by communicating with the people trapped in these areas.
Further, ten telephone booths and 30 generator sets with mobile charging facility are also being airlifted from Chandigarh to the affected areas in Srinagar.
Meanwhile, Reliance Communications has restored four base terminal stations in the flood affected regions of Kashmir. The operator is offering free three minute calls from its public booths at relief camps across Jammu and Kashmir.
Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India are also offering free calling facility for 60 minutes per day to all its customers in Kashmir till September 17-18, 2014.
Meanwhile, BSNL said it will offer free calls (local as well as STD) and free SMS service to all those BSNL customers using its mobile network in Srinagar. Further, not only the customers residing in Srinagar, but all the BSNL customers from other states of North Zone reaching Srinagar for relief and rescue operations will be able to make free calls. The facility is already operational since September 11, 2014 and will continue till September 21, 2014.
